Default Downtime - 12+ hours today

Hi all,

For the entire day, the IVS site has been offline due to an undiagnosed error.

The error was telling me that the /tmp folder on the site was out of memory, however this was not the case at all.

After much investigation by the webhost, it appears that the inode count was full. Basically, it didn't matter that the diskspace wasn't even close to its maximum usage, there are just far too many files on the webserver.

I've gone through and deleted a whole lot of older files that no longer need to exist and the site, has returned.

If the problem happens again, where you see smarty errors, MySQL errors, or can't write to /tmp errors, the reason will be the same and I will be rapidly deleting again.

I apologise for the downtime, if it has affected any of you adversely please contact me and I will try to remedy the situation for you.

Downtime Round 2 - Ok the second downtime was due in part to the first one. Apache wasn't working, and both PHP and Apache were recompiled. Unfortunately in doing that the MySQL version was reverted back, and none of the databases were compatible with the old version, so site, forum and blog all went down.

Took all day to diagnose and fix, unfortunately.

Once again apologies to everyone, I don't like it when these things happen, it makes me furious.

I stopped in for my daily visit and the site was down. Shook me up so bad I had to take two Prozac and wash them down with three shots of Kentucky Bourbon.

Seriously, hate that you're having problems and hope you get things fixed up soon. I'm sure you're a bit aggravated about now.

I hate when something like that happened.
It makes you fill as if everybody is watching you and betting how long your site will stay down.

I hope you are back to your old yourself and are ready to face your new challenges.

It was just one error after another. I've had to delete so many files just to get the site back online.

The blog is still broken. When the site went offline, it reverted back to wordpress setup. Someone may have maliciously then gone and ruined the blog by trying to setup wordpress again.

If that's the case I may need to just scrap it and start again. The database and wordpress aren't talking to each other as they should.

I'll have to keep an eye on the inode count. It is still very high, and I don't really want this to happen again.

We'll do something cool this month though to get things going again. I think it's time we had nominations for the spotlight. I'll come up with the rules over the weekend and we'll start giving away some spots

Hehe. It's the people who aren't posting that we should be worried about.

I'd love a kentucky bourbon right about now hahaha, but I'm not drinking at the moment.

Site seems ok *fingers crossed*, In any event the databases remain ok, it's really just how all the other files/programs are interacting with each other that is causing any niggling issues that remain.

Yes it happened again today.

I've deleted I think as much as I can so if the sites inodes are filling up now, I can't really do anything about it. There isn't anything else really to delete.

We'll have to see how it goes over the next couple of days, I may need to move to a new host, as the inode maximums cannot be increased without a format.

Sooo glad you are back online. I checked in yesterday after being on sporadically and worried after getting weird messages, thinking if I had been here more often, I would know what was happening.

Here in Vegas, so many stores, businesses, companies closing and people's homes being foreclosed. Glad it is not the case with the forum
