Yeah the ones where you have to create an account are very annoying. It's so much work just for a simple listing.

We require you to create an account and it is no more work than a regular submission. If the email address doesn't already relate to an account in our system, one is created and you are emailed the password.
You can then login and edit the listing in the future. It takes more no more effort than entering your email address (which most directories require anyway). Of course, if you are stupid you can enter someone else's email address and then they will be able to edit your listing!
Also, if you are stupid, you'll hire an SEO or submission firm that uses THEIR email address and then you'll have a heck of a time in a few years! Opps.. I guess you forgot to tell the SEO firm what email address or use... or they didn't ask.

Just out of interest - how many people do you find go back and edit their submissions George? Is it lots/some/a few?
I don't mind confirming the email address or anything like that. It's the ones that ask for extensive details in order to register an account.

Very few... out of some 50,000+ entries... there are maybe 1 or 2 edits a day posted. I don't track how many delete their listings. About once a month someone emails frantically needing their listing deleted.
A fair number of the edits get rejected. We edited something we didn't like and their edited back. byebye. For example, our listings are already geographically organized, so we ask you don't use a the same state or country in your user selected categories. ie: you submit to Michigan, you don't need to put "Michigan" in the category too.

You see George, that is the problem right there.
You are wasting your time for the second time for nothing as if it was not enough to edit submission once already and then do it again.
If you have even one edit per day and it takes you only 2 - 3 minutes, after 1 month it will take you 1 hour, 12 hours per year. I bet you have better things to do with your time instead of wasting it to clean up the mess pathological spammers has been creating for you.

I wouldn't generally call them spammers... but more like people obsessed with creating as much duplicate content as possible. And, its much less than 2 or 3 minutes because they don't get edited a second time.. they get deleted. Once deleted they can't be resubmitted.

Exactly my point.
Why give them access in a first place?

Absolutely, they submit it and it gets listed with a bit of editorial work if needed and that's the end of that. They don't need to edit it again after you've approved it.

What about having the option to register (at the time of submission) to edit your listing at a later stage?
That way for people who know they wont ever edit their listings don't have to register. People who think they might in the future can choose to register along with their submission.
Perhaps it'll cut down on the number of spammy edits too?

I'm just trying to figure out what's up with all the crappy submission coming from so call SEO company sites. I know you get them and know what I mean. It seems lately I get dozen of submission daily from companies claiming to be the "best SEO company" in the world and they can't even write a proper description.
It's not just your typical spammy submissions, there's plenty of that, but stuff that's so poorly written it makes no sense as well. Now I normally edit, rewrite or change up most descriptions but for free submissions I'm not always inclined to completely write a description from scratch for "1# SEO Company" which should know how to do it properly in the first place
I can understand someone that's not a native English speaker possibly having difficulty with spelling, punctuation and grammar so that's not the issue or a problem for me. I edit all my submission and making corrections in this area is something I routinely do.
I don't know. I guess I'm just amazed that so many claiming to be SEO experts apparently don't have a clue how write a decent description and submit to directories with with any real hope of their spammy nonsense getting accepted. It's as if they all go to the same school and learn how to write the same crap.
If they are doing this for paid clients sites then they are certainly doing them a disservice because their acceptance rate must really suck.
I know it's all part of running a directory but it sure gets aggravating at times. Anyway, I feel better now

Hello...
Got a chuckle from that as i get the same stuff daily from so called SEO Gurus PROs and everything else that submit straight garbage descriptions and keyword stuffed titles and want us to accept. Dont stress to much it happens to all of us and i dont see any end in site..
thx
