I don't know about you guys, but for me there are no customers in the free directory industry. You've got webmasters who want their sites listed because they want the backlinks and you have sites (the directories) that are prepared to list them if they are worthy of being listed. Where's the customer in that?

For me, webmasters are just suggesting their sites for inclusion and directory owners will consider it, and that's the end of it, or at least it should be.

Great point ModCars, nothing in life is "free". I still think directory's whether free or not have customers though.

You talk about the webmasters submitting, but what about the people that actually use the directory? I think we'd all agree that most directories probably have very few actual users, but that's not to say that they have none. The information, used by these people, and the advertising options available to them, make them a customer.

I guess the best way of putting it is that these webmasters are encouraged to submit quality sites, with quality information to a directory, and in exchange (for want of a better word) for doing so they gain a link to their website.

The directory owner gains content, if the site information is good then that content is far easier to edit/maintain.

If their content is good, people WILL use it. I have a number of directories bookmarked that I visit often to use their information.

Agree, but only after they go into transaction with directory operator, other than that, they are consumers which limits their claims thus the right to demand unconditional privileges.

I waited patiently long enough to see with what resolution Directory Man will come up to put the end to that bizarre issue he has created.

So you all know, I sent him PM informing him about my post to make sure he is aware about my offer and because we never heard from him since after, I will assume he has rejected peace pipe and instead chose the tomahawk of war.

As usual, I will chose to disagree with Dan. Our main directory, http://directory.classifieds1000.com , yesterday had 13,865 human page views. I would say that the vast majority of our viewers are not looking to submit a site.

They are people that are actually looking for something specific.

Well I did say most not all. There are always going to be exceptions. And I am happy to see that your directory is one of them

@mimika I have edited your post to remove the "quote" concerning DirectoryMan. I am happy for both of you to have a discussion but not when it will descend into name calling. I don't see that any positive will come from what you have posted, so I chose to remove it. I think if you two cannot resolve it, in such a way that you actually have some sort of respect for each other in the process, then it isn't going to work.

I don't think that telling to somebody's face the truth supported with the hard facts is calling names.

Granted, telling innocent person belligerent things something no one should be doing but making person (who is going over the board to deny common sense) aware what others think about his conduct, is totally different story.

But... this is your forum and I submit to your rules.
