Default Submitting a Directory to IVS

The new method to submit a directory to IVS requires the submitter to first be a member of the IVS site prior to submission.

Follow these simple steps.

[1] Sign up as a member of IVS using the sign up link in the login box.

[2] Login to IVS via the submission form. Once logged in a big fat blue Submit A Directory button appears in the logged-in box.

[3] Click the Submit A Directory button and fill in the submission form.

[4] Click the submit directory button once you have completed the form.

That's it, your directory will now be in the submission queue.

NB: Please be advised that we are being extremely strict in regards to editing on directories that are submitted. If we look through a directory and find even a few weakly edited submissions (anything from cut off words in titles, comma-delimited keyword lists in descriptions or multiple repetitions of words in titles/descriptions) then that directory will not be accepted.

Ensure that your directory is clean of badly edited listings prior to submission. Doing so will ensure that you have a much greater chance of being accepted into the list.

No. Don't have a provision for "directory of directories"...

Dan, I imagine this is in development but any time frame for your paid membership feature. The way I understand it is this will allow us to submit our paid directories.

Hopefully by years end. The provision is there already, it just needs adjusting.

Yes it will allow submission of paid directories. It will also give access to other features of the site including submission of the important pages (deeplinks) of a directory, the CSV generator, and reviewing.

Good question.

When you say reciprocal-only, you mean no paid options just the reciprocal? or do you mean reciprocal as the "free" option?

If it is the former, i.e. the only option, then No.
If it is the latter, i.e. one of the options, then Yes.

Reason for no purely reciprocal directories is that they are a bad model. Reciprocation has been shown to be bad for SEO, and linkbuilding. It just doesn't work, and having that as part of a directory is almost like saying "well we will give you a link no matter how dodgy the site you are submitting is... as long as you link back!"

I have a reciprocal only directory for webmaster resources, and do not just accept listings because they link back, but they have to be interesting to the visitors of the main site; the resources directory is a list of useful resources for my visitors. I add selected sites myself, and want to limit submissions to those sites that appreciate mine.
A bit like directories who display your logo: not necessarily for SEO but for your real visitors, a real appreciation of each other sites rather than a benefit in search engine terms.

So if you find a resource that is good you won't add it unless they link back?

The directories that display the SEO friendly button aren't required to do so. We did offer that option a while back for paid directories - but haven't for probably 2 years now.

No, I just add them if they're good without the requirement to link back: what's good is good!
If I would allow any submission I would not be able to look after my other directories properly, because I would get to many submissions, and my resources directory is mostly a depository for sites I use on a regular basis, and are worthy of sharing.
I reject plenty of sites that link to me, as I only list sites if they are useful to my visitors too.

As you know Dan, I concentrate on visitor friendly directories , which happen to be SEO friendly merely by accident (or maybe because they are visitor friendly )
