Hi Dan

Another idea is for directory owners to somehow showcase their directories if they are using one of the scripts in your list, like a subsection for each script where directories using that particular script can show off the qualities of the script in question.
That should help people contemplating starting a directory, to choose the best one for their needs, and allows directory owners to support their preferred developer.

What sort of format would you do for that? phpld for example has literally hundreds of directories in the list. So having every URL for that would just be repeating large sections of the list...

Or are you saying... Ok, this is an example of a general directory using this script (1 URL) and this is an example of a niche directory using this script (1 URL) and this is a list of the modifcations they are using... ???

Well, did not think of it that way: it indeed would be a duplication etc.

I was more thinking along the lines for directory owners to somehow add comments about what is great (and maybe not so great) about a particular script.
For two reasons: support the script developer of your choice and help them improve their product, and provide a sample base for people who cannot make up their mind which script to use.

In a way, I suppose that the developer's site would contain that info as well: they might have a forum and a showcase, so maybe there is no need for it on VS.

Well we may be able to do that... Each directory (and each directory script) in the list will have its own "details page". Those details pages will allow reviews on a directory/directory script. So in that instance we have it covered. Perhaps I can also provide a field "Reviews of Script" which would link to that details page, and then the reviews can be read there.

If people are just going to write "great script, I recommend it" then viewers of that information aren't going to be any more enlightened. Despite it being additional content, it seems that is what constitutes a review. Even eBay uses a similar method to rate its sellers/buyers.

This actually isn't currently included in the spec I have completed for the project, so we might have to include this as a 2nd version option. I imagine there could be a number of changes to make once the site goes live, depending on how certain things are received by the community.
