I'm taking leave from Thursday 1st November (that's today - it's now 4-30pm my time as I write this) and will be returning on Friday 9th November.

I'm back a day early

Had a great time at the races. The only sour point was a crash in one of the races where the horses hind leg snapped under it's own weight. Because it happened right in front of the gallery (the audience) it was horrific seeing the horse struggle on dragging its broken leg behind it - quite a few women and men were in tears. The horse was put down shortly afterwards.

Wasn't pretty. I consider myself pretty strong emotionally but I found the scene disturbing.

No one even looked at the jockeys (two of them were lying on the course not moving). They were more worried about the horse. The other horse was knocked out further up the track. It miraculously stood back up about 10 minutes later.
