Default Linking to banned sites ?

We have just done a check on 2 sites that we have not bothered with for over a couple of years, as the HP suddenly went from PR5 to PR0.
The HP´s are still indexed, but all the other pages are not.
We found quite a few outgoing links to sites that are now banned by G.

OK, so we boobed. Entirely our fault.

How would one determine what sites are banned by google (without doing automated queries)?

Can you provide me a list of the urls of a few banned sites so I can see if there is something in the content that would indicate they are "bad"?

Those that we have checked so far, had either...

1. changed the site into a few words of content on HP, and 1.000's of links.

or

2. Cross linked, as each had quite a few sites on the same C class.

Obvious really.

"obvious" not if you manually check 10s of thousands of links. Maybe less obvious when trying to automate the process.

Lots of good (though I say stupid) websites have very few words on their home page as they use a single jpg.

you can normally tell that a site is under Google penalty when it has PR but shows nothing when a site: command is issued. Obviously the same can be done with PR0 sites (as that is what the banned site will eventually have). You have to be a bit more careful with a PR0 site though because it may be new and therefore not yet indexed by Google - and that would give a false impression of it being banned.

Is there an easy way to tell that sites are "Cross linked, as each had quite a few sites on the same C class." (Other than following each link and checking IP addresses) This seems like it would take forever to check.

To check for sites on the same IP or C block is easy. Cross linking is a bit more tricky as you might need to look at more than a single page on a site. How deep do you go? 1 level, 2 levels, 3 levels? How many pages do you check? 10? 100? 1000? 10000?
