Default Two New Lists: Most Viewed and Top Rated

With the addition of the 5-star rankings, I've decided I may look into creating two new lists.

1 - Most Viewed Directories
One that is based on directories who are getting the most views to their details pages. I've written blog posts on these before:

http://info.vilesilencer.com/blog/?p=249
http://info.vilesilencer.com/blog/?p=131

And they were well received. Except this time I would just have the system itself order the top 20 viewed, via the database. Popularity in that sense is a good indicator of which directories people are spending their time on and it could also help me decide where to spend more time working on the site.

I'm looking at including this page next week

Edit: Just taking a quick look at viewing numbers, the highest I could find was around 5300 views, and there's about 15 in the range from 3500-5300, so a directory is going to have to be around this number to make the top 20 viewed...

2 - Top Rated Directories
This one would be based on which directories have the highest ratings in the system. Obviously 5 stars is the highest rating so, all the 5 star directories would probably show on this page. I think I may make it a minimum of 3 ratings or something before a directory can make the page.

This one would probably be something I bring in down the line, when the ratings system is far more established, as there is very little there now.

This is probably something that could be introduced in early-to-mid 2013

Does anyone have a similar style of page they'd like to see that groups the directories?

Just off the top off my head I could think of a view more that could give site visitors a quick snapshot of what's available:
  • Top PR
  • Top Alexa
  • Recently Added
  • Most Reviewed
  • Recently Reviewed

But I'm sure there's more.

These would all be pretty simple. Every page could follow the same format. Small thumbnail, simple info (Directory Name, PR, Alexa, Rating etc...) Link to directory itself, and link to the details page.

Do that for say 20 to 25 depending on the size of the page...

I would probably style these pages somewhat differently to the rest of the site. That would all depend on how easiest to develop these new pages with the coder... but they should at least give the directories listed in those pages, a bit more of a leg up.

If we can make the pages simple, I will kill all advertising on them and just showcase the directories, to keep it nice and clean. Should rock!

I would like to see a page that has directories that are socially connected. Social media pages, maybe even at minimum have buttons on there directory page.

Social Exposure.

Good idea... That will be a much more manually intensive page for us to create (I'd have to basically individually review each directory to see if they have buttons/twitter accounts/a facebook page --- etc etc), but that could give us another way to rate/review a directory. social exposure/presence.

I guess a directory having a blog is also an important consideration in establishing its social presence.

I could probably include a field in the submission pages for new directories such that they can include their facebook pages / twitter feeds / blogs etc, might also need to have a way for directory owners who are already listed to be able to include this info too...

Will have to think about it some more and dicuss with the coder.
