Fixing Top 100 Metrics
Hi all,
It's been a while since I addressed this as it just wasn't a priority at the time.
I actually hired someone 3 weeks ago to take care of this but the job wasn't done. I've found a new coder (the one that took care of the ratings system) and I am looking at getting both the Alexa and PR data ranges fixed in the system.
This is a cosmetic change for now, and won't really add much value to the site as such but the correct information is still better to have.
Also, once that is taken care of I will address the actual Top 100 ranking system itself (the alexa and PR are connected with that so they need to be taken care of first --- i.e. they tie break two directories on the same rank)
If you don't know what I am referring to, simply look at the first 20 directories in the Top 100. #18, which was recently removed, hasn't been replaced.
Even though the sorting mechanism works (there are 20 directories in each block-row), their actual ranking is incorrect. Also because the ranking calculator is broken (again the PR/alexa ties in with this) it is unable to change any ranks so we aren't seeing improvements or downslides.
Yup. Sounds like a mess. Hence why it is being fixed. The directories themselves on the list deserve to be there, so the main importance of the content is there, just we weren't seeing any change in rankings because of the system being broken --- far less of a concern for me, but still a concern.
