Does it cost money?

Found another engine that seems to have good results:

Dont you ever forget good-old http://www.altavista.com
Even though Yahoo owns it these days, I still get a lot of visitors from there.

By the way, there's another alternative to Google is breeding right now: http://www.majestic12.co.uk/
Looks like they are on the right track. I'd love to know what search algorithms they use.

Here are a few search engines I came across recently:

Oolone
http://oolone
Returns site page previews, four at a time.

Ice Rocket
http://www.icerocket.com/
Blog search engine.

Quixey
http://quixey.com
Search results can be filtered by platform and browser type, a handy capability now that phone apps are becoming so popular.

DuckDuckGo
http://duckduckgo.com
or
http://ddg.gg

There are also a couple lists here:

Specialty Search Engines
http://ict11-12.wikispaces.com/Search+Engines

Country-specific list
http://www.philb.com/countryse.htm
(Sometimes it is easier to get in a local search engine than a global one, so I suggest to new webmasters to submit their sites to a local search engine if their submissions to the global engines goes nowhere.)

DuckDuckGo seems quite clever. I still think they have a ways to go with relevancy, this is due largely in part to them buffering the results from other engines with wikipedia.

They believe this gives them greater relevancy. Personally I think it weakens their relevancy. You can't grab another engines data and then add more gunk to it and expect it to be more relevant. They *should* just take Google's results and filter them better. Anyone that does that will steal share from Google right under their nose, even if it is a bit cheeky to do so.

I read somewhere that DuckDuckGo is working on weeding out the really garbage sites from their listings. I've only recently been exploring them and that does seem to be the case with the searches I've done.
