Ownership on IVS
With the new site we will be introducing more accountability into the lists.
One of the ways in which we will do this is by asking members to claim their directories.
There will be 2 types of ownership in the list:
- Owned by Membername
- Unowned
The difference between the 2 is that at a glance we will be able to tell who is the owner of a particular directory and then contact that person if there is a problem with their directory.
There will be a simple mechanism in place (such as adding a meta tag to your index page) that will help us identify who TRULY owns a directory, rather than people claiming their friends directories and what not.
To encourage people to claim their directories, the following benefits will bestowed upon members who identify which directories are theirs in the list:
- The link from IVS will be SEO friendly (i.e. we will remove the rel=nofollow). Because we trust our members, we will put our trust in their site by linking to them fully.
- Any member that has claimed their directory(s) will be auto-notified if their directory is moved/removed on IVS. That way they will be able to rectify any potential problems quickly, and we can move them back just as quickly.
Those directories that remain unowned, we cannot vouch for so their links will remain non-SEO friendly. I think this is an important distinction to make and it is a step up from the system that we currently utilise.
