Default Claiming your directory on IVS

Firstly, why would you want to?

Well, we are only using dofollow links on directories which are owned by members on the site (this requires them to be claimed). We believe this gives us the best chance of only endorsing directories owned by serious directory owners.

Ownership also adds additional value to the directory listings. We're prepared to deeplink (special members only - this feature is coming soon) to additional pages within an owned directory. We are also prepared to cross-promote owned directories to increase visibility.

After reading that, how can you not claim your directory?

==========

There are currently two ways you can claim your directory.

Let's use http://canlinks.net as an example.

Method 1: Search for your directory

1. Log-in as a member of the IVS website, then do a search on your directory name. In this instance we want canlinks.net.

2. So first we enter canlinks into the search box.

Then hit [enter] or click the arrow on the search box.

3. Click on the CANLinks link in the search results page.

You will be taken to the details page for that directory.

4. Once you are on the details page. In the Owner Details section there is a field called "Owner", and as you can see this directory is currently "Unowned". Next to that is a [Claim Here] link.

5. Click that [Claim Here] link and you will be taken to the directory claiming page. Each directory has an individual claim page.

See Claiming Ownership Of Your Directory header below to see what to do next.

==========

Method 2: Scan for your directory

This method is probably a bit longer unless you know exactly where your directory is, or if the search is proving unfruitful.

1. Log-in as a member of the IVS website. Then, using the menu's at the top of the site, click on the type of directory that yours is.

CANLinks is [general free] so we click on that.

2. This takes you to the alphabetical listings. We need the [C] category so click on that.

3. The second one down is CANLinks. Now, here we have the same Owner field as the Search method. Again click the [Claim Here] link and you will be taken to the directory claiming page.

See Claiming Ownership Of Your Directory header below to see what to do next.

Claiming Ownership of your directory

Once you've done Method 1 or Method 2, you'll end up here, the Claiming Ownership page.

First off read the instructions:
You will be asked to place a special unique tag on your site. Specifically, on the page that this directory refers to. You must place this tag on your directory's home page. Once you've placed this tag on the home page of your directory, come back to this page and click on the Verify button. Our system will retrieve the page over the web and confirm that the tag exists. If the tag does exist, your claim on ownership for this directory will automatically be approved.

Then hit the [request tag] button

You will be given a unique meta tag that needs to be placed within your directory's index page. Leave the claim page open, and insert the meta tag between the head section of your site. Ensure that you haven't got additional spacing at the end of the tag, and that you have copied it correctly or it will not work.

Once you have included the tag in the head section of your site, return to the claim page and click the [verify tag] button.

If the claim is successful then the membership name that you are using will be assigned to that directory. If you own more than one directory and have claimed them in the list, then these will also appear in the details page section.

If the claim is unsuccessful then you may have copied the tag incorrectly (any trailing spaces or characters added by text editors and what not will render the tag incorrect). Hit the [change tag] button to try again. If you are unsuccessful for a second time then you can contact me with your directory name, membership name, and your tag and I will review your directory to see if you have the tag in place in your index page. If it is there, then I can manually approve your directory.
