I see it in every forum or blog people want to know: “How can I spot Best Free Directory?”
So, here is some hint how you can spot Best Directories
Google’s algo can distinguish between just another link and link from quality directories. Granted Google will count link regardless where it comes from but it will give more weight if site is voted by good directory because good directory will always review and edit submission and will make sure it belongs to real and quality site.
The trick is how to give that site more than just one link and to make Google count it. Real Best Directory is the one that can manage to do just that. How, you’re asking? Quite simple.
1. First of all directory must make sure that link is pointing to site and not to internal database. It’s call SEF optimization. SEF stays for: Search Engine Friendly.
2. Second, directory must have such a pages as ‘More Info’ where you place second link for Google to swallow. Then directory must have ‘Rate Link’ page where you place another link and then ‘Review Link’ page with one more link. Now we have 4 pages which Google sees as independent resources because links are coming from pages with different addresses.
As for example I will take DMOZ and AMRAY.
The best you can get from DMOZ is 2 links to your site, one in General Category and another one (maybe) from Regional whereas AMRAY will give your site 4 backlinks
Now you tell me where would you rather to have you site listed in DMOZ or AMRAY Directory
Go to AMRAY and see what I am talking about and if after that you still have no idea how to spot Best Directories then nothing in this world will open your mind.
Did I mention AMRAY is Free Directory?
