My website meets all the IVS criteria so why wasn't it accepted into IVS as a directory? ========================================= What are the benefits of listing my directory on IVS (Info Vilesilencer)? The benefits are: - A large volume of continuous and targeted traffic. - Recognition from an established, well-known and trusted directory industry resource. - SEO friendly certification from the original SEO friendly directory resource. - Visibility/Brand awareness in the directory industry. (Back to Top) How do I submit a directory for possible inclusion into Info Vilesilencer Directory List? We have detailed instructions for submitting a directory to Info Vilesilencer. (Back to Top) How do I know if my directories is SEO friendly and meets all of the IVS criteria for possible inclusion into the directory list? Your directory must be SEO friendly. Check to see if it meets the SEO Friendly Criteria. That is our 1st requirement. Your directory must have a strong editorial policy. Learn about editing at the General Directory FAQ. That is our 2nd requirement. If your directory is submitted as free, it must have an unconditional free option or UFO (conditions like reciprocal required will negate your claims as free and we will reject your directory). That is our 3rd requirement. If your directory is submitted as paid, you must be a special member. That is our 4th requirement. NB: Submitting a paid directory, because you have special membership, does not guarantee that we will list it. You are not paying for incusion, you are paying for a review for possible inclusion. We will be extremely strict (requirement 2 - strong editorial policy) when reviewing the content on paid directories. If we feel that your content is weak, has too much spam/junk, is too light (not very much of it) then you will be rejected. (Back to Top) What is this strict criteria that IVS is renowned for? IVS is renowned for creating the first, full SEO friendly criteria. In order to be certified as SEO friendly a directory must meet the following criteria: - Direct and static outbound links for listed websites. - NO blocking of the search engine robots in the robots.txt file or meta tags. - NO use of rel=nofollow on the outbound links. - NO internal links, jumplinks or redirects for outbounds. - The keyword anchor is part of the link (this is normally the Site Title but can also be embedded in the Description). However, we also require directories to have a strong editorial policy. This is reflected by the strength (or weakness) of their content. If a directory has a lot of spam or poor listings, then it has a weak editing policy and it will fail our review. (Back to Top) Why is IVS so strict on which directories it includes? Isn't more better? IVS is so strict because we believe strongly in separating the wheat from the chaff. The directories who are the strongest resources in terms of content and what they have to offer the end user, should be singled out and acknowledged. Conversely, the dime a dozen, built yesterday and gone tomorrow, directories that plague the web need to be avoided at all costs. This is why we are strict. By ensuring a high standard we ensure that only valuable resources are added to the list. As a directory owner if you make the list that is a reward for effort, and an acknowledgement that your directory is useful As a submitter or user of the IVS website, you can be safe in the knowledge that the directories you are submitting to are worthwhile. We separate the good from the garbage so that your time can be spent just submitting to the cream directories. Let your competition submit to tens of thousands of garbage ones instead. (Back to Top) How do I know what consitutes spam, and what is an editorial policy? Visit the General Directory FAQ and read all the editing and spam related questions and answers. If you have more questions on either topic. Then ask. (Back to Top) Why are some directory listings rel=nofollow on IVS, whilst others aren't? All listings included on IVS are given a rel=nofollow by default. This is done to maintain the integrity of the lists and to ensure that we are not handing out dofollow listings like candy. There are far too many fly-by-night directories in the industry and we are trying to weed them out by only looking after serious directory owners. In order for the rel=nofollow to be removed, a directory must be claimed by its owner. This demonstrates to us that the owner is serious about their resource, and it also gives us the opportunity to communicate with the owner about any changes that we make to IVS or their listings. To claim a directory, please visit the Claim Ownership thread, and do also read the questions/answers below regarding claiming ownership. (Back to Top) How do I claim my directory? We have detailed instructions for claiming a directory on Info Vilesilencer. (Back to Top) What is the benefit in claiming my directory? What does it cost? Claiming directories is, and always will be, 100% free. The benefits in claiming your directory are as follows: Firstly, you are a recognised owner of that directory and we at the directory list are able to contact you far more easily if you are identified as the owner. This is beneficial because quite often simple errors creep into directories that can be fixed easily, and if we can communicate that with you, then it will be solved more quickly. Secondly, it puts a name/face to the directory. It adds an element of trust and it demonstrates that you are interested in your resource and its placement on the directory list. We care about that and because you have shown us trust, we return the favour by removing the rel=nofollow from your listing. (Back to Top) My website meets all the IVS criteria so why wasn't it accepted into IVS as a directory? There are many reasons why a directory will fail to be included on IVS, these are: - The directory is part of a large directory network (groups of similar directories) and is therefore considered a bad neighbourhood. - The directory's content is edited weakly. (see elsewhere regarding content). - The directory is giving errors - these can include the site being offline, bandwidth exceeded, forbidden or server errors as well as MySQL errors. - The categorisation is broken because the mod_rewrite() command has been botched in the .htaccess file rendering the directories navigation broken to both humans and bots. - The directory requires a reciprocal link in return for a listing. This is tantamount to bribing to get listed. Also reciprocal linking is an idea that was old a decade ago. It's considered bad manipulation. (some directory lists do this too. Look out!) - The directory requires submitters to "bid for placement". This defeats the purpose of paying for reviews because anyold junk gets listed. The highest bidder wins! - The directory contains adult, gambling, pharmaceutical or other taboo material/content that IVS deems to be inappropriate. - The submission form is broken. - The captcha on the submission form is broken (very common) - The hosting is suspended or the domain has expired - The directory is inactive (not maintained) or not including new sites - The design is not unique, is duplicated, or is a default template. - The domain name is either nonsensical (such as szwksy.com) or is too generic on a cheap extension like .info and .biz (e.g. best-free-directory.info, or add-your-site.biz) If you meet our full list of criteria and your site is not applicable to any of the rejection reasons above, then you may [contact us] to ask for a re-review.
