I'm thinking about getting a face lift and upgrade for my BizFire directory and bringing in into the current century. My problem is I'm not a designer/coder. In fact, I don't have a creative bone in my body and trying to sit down and come up with anything resembling a design plan causes near instant brain lock.

I'm going to ask you guy for some inspiration. Have you seen anything that you think is really nice you can point me to. Working with a "designer" is frustrating to me because I don't know the jargon very well but I can point to an example and say I like this and that or the other about it.

Speaking of designers, anyone know a good, easy to work with designer that works fast and doesn't cost a fortune...or is that to much to ask for. By fast I mean not making a thousand excuses and dragging a project out by weeks and months over the estimate.

Now if you are a designer and fixing to raise your hand, I must warn you. I've been told I need to learn a little patients. I also heard that patients is a virtue and good things come to those who wait. Well, I only have one thing to say, "patients my ass." The only thing you get by waiting is the crummy stuff left over from those who were first. Other than that one little patients thing, I'm very pleasant to work with. ;)

So I thought, what about opting out of these bogus *mailing lists* and noticed something unusual with Viesearch(dot)com (who send me an email roughly every two days).

Does the fact that this directory gets to legally spam you in return for a listing really make the directory free? Have others noticed similar policies with different directories?

How this happens is there can be up to 10 internal page links plus if they provide a rss feed I grab the first 10 to list.
Feels like the big re-release is getting close.

First of all they list pretty much every country with only a handfull of categories under each.

Their TOS won't scroll, one has to click on it and highlite to paste to read it. In the hidden portion it says the domain must match the email.

They list three methods of submission, Featured, Reciprocal and Free, but after submitting two sites free I get this.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your listing x y z com has been deleted from
icecreamforyoursoul com / category,
probably because you did not place reciprocal listing(s) to Ice Cream For Your Soul Directory.
To see your listing again, please add a listing to our site and inform us.

I emailed them about it, will see what I get for a reply. BobP

With so many free submit directory's TOS saying no adult submissions I was wondering if anyone can explain just where the line is? Nothing explicit please. I mean, we all know it when we see it, that's not what I'm talking about. What's the minimum that gets a site kicked as adult?

If we were talking movie ratings, G, PG, PG-13, PG-17, R, would all these be non-adult or is anything worse then G a problem?

Is it subjective, the further: no adult or sites linking to, TOS would seem to exclude all search engines, amazon and ebay, yet that's not always the case, maybe because you must click a button to turn off safe search.

Does linking to an "adult" site make a directory "adult" limited to the unsafe side of the big three, I can't find their criteria how they decide unless they rely on complaints.

I've just be notified that CANLinks has finally converted to a paid-model.

They sat at #2 on the free directory list for pretty much the whole time the new site has been operational, and they've always been quick at including and also being indexed (typically their listings show up as a backlink in Yahoo a few days or a week after going live).

For their contribution to the free directory community I've moved them into the IVS paid directory list as a valuable addition.
