Nice Christmas theme on the xls sheet :)
skaloosh.com turned to paid
Rainchild - dollarfriend seems to be working. DWFF always had a small number of listed sites (i think it was only their own), I had so many suggestions to add it that I did so. However I'm not sure if they will ever add anyones sites. There are a couple like that on the list, and I guess the problem is, if they haven't started adding people that backlog is going to be so massive they will never get around to it.
Tomas glad ya noticed :P, will add skaloosh to be removed.

You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.
HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
Internet Explorer
Dan if I go into a category instead of the listings I see a 403 error. Is this a browser setting or something on the site?
403 Forbidden when attempting to view a sub-directory (or sub folder) on a website is displayed when you are trying to access something that has been set to no-access at server level.
For example try visiting http://vilesilencer.com/images/
I have set it so that folder is not publicly available to view.
I am not seeing the problem you are seeing, the directory works fine for me...

Just had another look at it and it appears to be a problem with the Sponsored Links. Can you see their sponsored links? I am playing with my browser settings but its not making a difference.

new one: red-links.com
(Do we ad new directories in the forum, or in this thread? I hate to admit that after such a long time here I've just become confused. I guess both ways work... )
add them in here, its easiest.
If someone is announcing/promoting their own directory they can start a new thread.
Edit: Interesting look on that red links one... I wonder where they got that idea from :P

Going through the update list tonight, will edit this post and add any other problems i stumble across as usual :)
http://www.edirectorypages.com = signup required (not sure if this is allowed?)
http://www.kenlist.com/ = recip ... think i may have seen that mentioned already
eDirectory requires registration. correct. This is fine.
kenlist doesn't require a reciprocal. read more

OK, those are good then, although kenlist inforces you put the position of reciprocal URL in the box else it wont submit , was this always the case?
http://www.zitrote.com/directory/ - was offline last night and is still offline this morning... maybe worth checking again in few days to see if its going to come back
Tomas
12-09-2005, 09:42 PM
zitrote was offline for a longer time, I couldn't submit for at least last few days... in fact, I haven't seen this site yet
Kenlist didnt require me to put a reciprocal in. I submitted a site today it went through fine. I also received the email saying it was accepted...
I will keep an eye on Zitrote, thanks.

Hi there,
long time lurker first time poster :) I was prompted to come here and report http://freehdir.mylinea.com/. After submitting my site I received this email from them:
Hi friends
Your site is approved for listing in freehdir.mylinea.com. but we want
link back for our directory. So please put our link in your any site.
Our autometic link crawler crawl your site with in 15 days. So please
placed our link with in 15 days, other wise your link will be removed
from our database.
Title - Freee Human edited directory
URL - http://freehdir.mylinea.com/
Description - Your new free human edited directory on the net, Help

I am thinking the "So please placed our link with in 15 days, other wise your link will be removed from our database." means they require a reciprocal link now (sneaky!).
Tomas

Hi Norabear,
Welcome among posters:). I have already reported this in one of the older threads. But thanks that you brought this up, the more we are monitoring the directories the better the list will be.
My conclusion at that time was that they are requesting this, but it is just a "threat", a not that polite request for reciprocal. I don't think they have any automatic crawler, and even if they had, how would it crawl thousands of pages of some websites, just to find if there is a one little link placed somewhere? No way.
Tomas

Hi Dan,
The new lists are great as usual. Many of them listed my site within 2 days or less.
DWFF and VVZA look like clones of the same directory??. I submitted to both & have never been listed in either. In fact, there is NOTHING listed in any of the health related categories in either of these directories. However, I see VVZA is on your most recent update???
Am I missing something here?? Thanks.
Dentalgil
Rechard thanks for clearing that up.
Dentalgil The owners of DWFF and VVZA are one and the same. They also own UUIQ, and UUDIR. You haven't missed something they all look the same. Just as any directory that uses the same script generally looks the same.
New directories obviously will have no listings, our best bet is to identify the directories that get added and who add no one in between updates, and then remove them. I don't want to be told that I didn't give people a fair go.
Ok, I've added 8 new directories to the review queue.
Let's knock out these directories with no listings in them. I've flagged DWFF and VVZA thanks Dentalgil, and I've added Aeoma, do we have anymore? Any that have no listings after being in the list for a week or more aren't ever going to respond so lets remove them.
Baggeroli thanks for 2space, added it to the review queue.
Inspireme Zitrote appears to be working.
Tomas thanks for catching all the recip-requireds.

Hello Dan,
First thanks for the list and the work you do. Second, please consider this directory for your list. http://www.buenoamigo.com It's new but we're trying to be as seo friendly as possible including hot linking the title on each link details page.

Bulgarian Tour is a waste of time IMHO. They are not adding links. They have a bad category structure so that often it is hard to find the right category. Their not adding links has nothing to do with quality of websites submitted (some of the entries in their directory are of very low quality).
(Just opened one of my directories admin, I have over 50 links in shopping and that is that I have rather high standards in that one and I'm way behind in approving. They only have 6 links in their shopping category. And they are way older than my dir is.)
I'm suggesting Bulgarian Tour for a consideration of - removal, transfer from general to travel niche, or transfer to a special "probably waste of time" category.
rainchild
12-14-2005, 09:55 AM
They do a lot submitting themselves. See them everywhere but have never had a single take up for any of my sites on their directory.
Mrbongos will add to the review queue.
Tomas will check dreamz out.
Bulgarian Tour... They did add my site, many moons ago. It's here http://bulgariantour.com/web_tour_promotion/web_directories.html
I've had a lot of people over the time it's been on the list complain about it being listed in general. It was listed in general because the last 3 categories clearly list general sites.
I am however, also aware of the need for us to begin streamlining the list. I removed the SilkPHP directories not only for their bad management skills but because their backlog was excessive, i.e. they don't add sites (unless people play) IMO. I removed perfext for excessive backlog - not adding sites. So I will add Bulgarian Tour to be removed, it was added as a general, so it will go out the same way.
Submission acceptance speed is becoming a major focus now, because most directory script developers have cottoned on to the SEO friendly idea, and how it all works, so finding SEO friendly directories is becoming less prevalent as an idea. I was the pioneer, all good directories now follow this principle.
I want to start categorising the list according to the most useful directories. We need a core group of directories that are the "must-submits". They add all quality sites submitted in a short time frame (relative to their size, bigger directories will obviously take longer to add) and are well indexed in the search engines. PR is less of an important factor for me when considering directory links as internal pages are normally smaller values than the index page, and PR is subject to the Google gods. They giveth and they can just as easily taketh away.

The directory http://www.buenoamigo.com has a nightmare registration procedure. Esta muy mal, lo necesita el mas bueno por usar. It can be simplified, not much more.

Hi there, I could not but notice that you claim that The Orange Pages is not SEO friendly? We think the reason you would give is that it has a robots.txt included? When you have hundreds if not thousands of links on one single topic which if left on one page to be easily indexed then the pages would crash most computers on the planet. The reason The Orange Pages has robot.txt files (We know) is because of the fact that it isn't mysql based and runs purely on html so the search is then run through cgi-bin. When Robots (especially ours) www.cantufind.com runs through it we used to get replicated results, in other words, lets go for Search Engine Optimization http://www.theorangepages.com/search_engine_optimization.htm There are over 1300 links there, these couldn't be put on one page and as explained, if they were put on seperate pages in bunches of fifties for arguments sake then the results would show up time as duplicates. The idea behind roboting these extra pages is to avoid this and merely give access to the front page.
The Orange Pages shouldn't be ignored for it is the ONE directory that actually has well over 1.5 million sites reviewed that are not leached from any other source, The Orange Pages uses paid staff, and are unbias. If you have crap on your site you won't get in. The fact it uses bog standard html also goes in their favor as they don't have mysql databases to break down or slow their search down etc. Our search engine cantufind.com is based on Chinese technology and we think The OP is very simply but probably the most honest of Directories out there, you won't get porn, you won't get rubbish descriptions. They don't mislead saying they have 4.5 million links like Dmoz, half of Dmoz links are either dead or changed to other sites. Volunteer editors soon get bored or go off to university and have no more time. Don't get misled by the number of 'Volunteers' Dmoz claims to have, these are the TOTAL of what they have had, most of these are well gone and the true figure is way below that. (One reason why they take forever to list you!).
All in all you would be wise to include The Orange Pages here not condemn it, they've stood the test of time and are bigger that most will know. They are also one of the few that actually own their own servers and are all but ready to relaunch their new directory. They are we've been advised currently re-building (via re-review) thier whole directory so this took some time. Besides, you also get a free guaranteed listing in Cantufind.com if you get into The Orange Pages. Now that can't be bad! :)
Respect to all.
Anita@cantufind.com - The Search engine that was ONCE The Orange Pages so knows all its secrets!!!
Cantufind I appreciate that you want to be relisted on my list, the traffic would've been exceptional.
I could not but notice that you claim that The Orange Pages is not SEO friendly? We think the reason you would give is that it has a robots.txt included?
Bullseye. Want to know why?
Site:http://www.theorangepages.com/ = Results 1 - 10 of about 72 from www.theorangepages.com
Site:http://theorangepages.com = Results 1 - 10 of about 73 from theorangepages.com
This is the crux of the problem... You are telling me that there are 1.5 million sites reviewed, but you only have 73 indexed pages? Your directory has been around for a very long time, why are so few pages indexed? I think the disallows in the robots.txt harms your site significantly. From an SEO Friendly perspective, having a link on your site doesn't help the site owner if their link isn't indexed. Can you see my point?
The Orange Pages shouldn't be ignored for it is the ONE directory that actually has well over 1.5 million sites reviewed that are not leached from any other source, The Orange Pages uses paid staff, and are unbias. If you have crap on your site you won't get in. The fact it uses bog standard html also goes in their favor as they don't have mysql databases to break down or slow their search down etc. Our search engine cantufind.com is based on Chinese technology
That's great, and I am happy for you to promote your resource here, however I still won't add it to the list as the link won't help my users, in the way they expect it to.
I think most people are well aware of DMOZ's problems with deadlinks, corruption, and endless waiting. Their idea was good but now it is kinda dead, though a link in their directory is still very powerful.
All in all you would be wise to include The Orange Pages here not condemn it
I do not condemn the site at all, all I am saying is I won't list it. Neither will I preach to you about your site, and how you run it. I do not understand why you have the disallows or why you use HTML instead of a mysql database, despite your explanations, but that's your choice. By the same token, I would expect that you would also respect my decision, based on a strict criteria, and also very time-consuming and painstaking reviewing of sites, to not include yours. I am probably one of very few directory list owners on the web that does actually check robots.txt files. I know the owner of http://seo-help.org/ checks them, because we have discussed directories at length many times over the course of the last 12 months, and we both agree that it is imperative that the disallows in a robots.txt shouldnt affect the major search engines.
They are also one of the few that actually own their own servers and are all but ready to relaunch their new directory. They are we've been advised currently re-building (via re-review) thier whole directory so this took some time.
I am flexible, and willing to re-review the directory, if they are lauching a new version/format. I don't however list search engines, please be aware of that.

My host should solve the problem within today, at least I hope so.
In any case I've a backup saved on my local PC so all data are safe.
Thanks
Rechard they ask for a reciprocal but I don't think its a requirement. Please try submission.
Jim thanks. I have cell search, directory cafe, hostwire, searching deep, my biz direct and unadir. The others I will take a look at. Frog Engine made the rejection pile last month.
Barron I'll take a look thanks
Massi thanks for coming and letting us all know, we do appreciate hearing it. Now that we are aware its temporarily down (due to server/hosting) your site won't be removed from the list :)
Barron I concur, intbonline requires reciprocal.
For those that are trying directoriobus it isn't in English, it's in Spanish, so you need to click agregar URL to add URL. The rest of the submission is intuitive enough.
I've taken a look at Jim's contribution. I will add the following to the review queue:
http://www.addyourlinkweb.com/
http://www.directoriobus.com/directorio-1602-English-0.html
http://www.2searchgames.com/
http://www.2searchshopping.com/
The islam directory I submitted to a long time ago. My site is listed under http://www.muslimmatrimonial.com/islamic-directory/index.php?c=676 which means I have left the directory out for a reason. It may have been to do with no category at the time, though I guess it is general enough to add it to the main list. I will add to the review queue.
Cantufind

Cantufind I appreciate that you want to be relisted on my list, the traffic would've been exceptional.
[QUOTE]Bullseye. Want to know why?
Site:http://www.theorangepages.com/ = Results 1 - 10 of about 72 from www.theorangepages.com
Site:http://theorangepages.com = Results 1 - 10 of about 73 from theorangepages.com
Where do you get these from?
This is the crux of the problem... You are telling me that there are 1.5 million sites reviewed, but you only have 73 indexed pages? Your directory has been around for a very long time, why are so few pages indexed? I think the disallows in the robots.txt harms your site significantly. From an SEO Friendly perspective, having a link on your site doesn't help the site owner if their link isn't indexed. Can you see my point?
No, they index many thousands of pages but due to the limits of the software they use (Poor but fast) they limit the number of pages that show as indexed, even then they still show about 450 pages indexed even at this early stage!! http://www.theorangepages.com/search/search.pl?Terms=search
That's great, and I am happy for you to promote your resource here, however I still won't add it to the list as the link won't help my users, in the way they expect it to.
Didn't ask you to add it, just suggested. I agree with your points and told them of the issues but they are confident they are on the right track albeit unorthodox!
I think most people are well aware of DMOZ's problems with deadlinks, corruption, and endless waiting. Their idea was good but now it is kinda dead, though a link in their directory is still very powerful.
Not for long!!!
The robot.txt shouldn't affect the majors but they do! Google blacklisted The Orange Pages when it was under the tag of cantufind.com for the very reason it claimed that the directory was offering duplicated pages when in reality all that was happening was that results such as Search Engine Optimization etc that had over a thousand links needed to be broken down. There was no duplication but until a Robot.txt was added they were having none of it. Other Search engines were fine but Google did count for a lot of traffic!. Now Cantufind.com and The Orange Pages are seperate for all intent and purpose there will be big changes and Cantufind.com are back in the allmighty one! There will always be a robot.txt file there for this is the only way to allow refreshed banner links to show without duplicating results. Once The Orange Pages have installed their linked Jackammer type scripts though I think that will be the key.
I am flexible, and willing to re-review the directory, if they are lauching a new version/format. I don't however list search engines, please be aware of that.
Thanks for that, it is appreciated. I can also pass on the message that The Orange Pages have been nosing at SEO forums and have their selection all but ready for up. You are in there by the way, even if you don't like them ;)
Respect.
The site command was taken from Google. You say later that Cantufind has been blacklisted for duplicating, surely there is a problem then that needs to be fixed.
No, they index many thousands of pages but due to the limits of the software they use (Poor but fast) they limit the number of pages that show as indexed, even then they still show about 450 pages indexed even at this early stage!! http://www.theorangepages.com/searc...pl?Terms=search
You've missed my point I was referring to indexed pages in google not by the site itself. It really doesn't matter how big The Orange Pages is, if Google doesn't index its pages those links are no good for SEO purposes.
Didn't ask you to add it, just suggested. I agree with your points and told them of the issues but they are confident they are on the right track albeit unorthodox!
No problem, my mistake.
he robot.txt shouldn't affect the majors but they do! You've missed my point again. I never said the robots.txt shouldn't affect the majors, I said the disallows in a robots.txt shouldn't affect the majors. You say you needed to do it for duplication purposes, ok that makes sense, but by doing it that way the site has very few pages indexed. A link in a directory is only useful if it can be picked up by a major search engine. If pages aren't indexed then neither are the links. The only other usefulness of having a link in a directory is traffic... This is far less important though because no directory has ever sent me more than about 5 visits, that includes DMOZ. The only directory that has sent me real traffic is Hotscripts. It send regular traffic, but it is a resource that is used to search for things, rather than an SEO directory.
Thanks for that, it is appreciated. I can also pass on the message that The Orange Pages have been nosing at SEO forums and have their selection all but ready for up. You are in there by the way, even if you don't like them
I haven't said I don't like them. Liking them really has nothing to do with why they aren't in the list. The criteria I have set down haven't been met, whether I like the site or not is irrelevant. I had a quick look but was unable to find my site, can you show me where it is?

You are listed here: SEO Forums (http://www.theorangepages.com/search_engine_optimization_forums.htm)
If you type in SEO in the search box the most relevant results will come up which in this case is Search engine optimization Forums. I know that the entire group of sub cats are being compiled as we speak and you will no doubt pop up in a few others. Sad to see this type of directory is not to your sites criteria however I'm pleased to say that the feedback from others is very pleasing so that's some consolation. Wish you the very best and of course it goes without saying sites that submit through you will get priority as with other SEO forums, even if we aren't reccomended. We are unbiased and providing the site submitted passes review they get in.
Have a good Xmas and a brilliant new year!

Your link http://www.site.com has been deleted from http://bluemushrooms.com/sites/directories/ category,

re bluemushrooms: owner transferred the directory to another script. Probably she decided to delete all that did not place reciprocal as part of the transfer. The old directory powered by LMA script is still present at the old address, though, the deletions are from new directory placed at new address. Until that is cleared, the directory shall probably remain listed.
Not only directories, I know of sites that were deleted and are solid sites according to most "standards" (and are not directories).
IMHO it was just a batch deletion, not manual, of sites approved in the past, that did not place reciprocal back at the time of submission.

If your site got deleted from the directory...
Posted by Sapphire in Administration
Friday, December 23. 2005
...it may be because I'm a moron.
I've been switching over the site directory to a new script. There were duplicate entries to clean up, lots of spam sites and other crud left from when I didn't know what I was doing, and the fact that the new script stuck all the "waiting for approval" links in as approved. Because of that, I felt pressured to go through everything by hand (over 2,300 links) and quickly clean out the crap - but in doing that, it looks like I've also deleted at least two accidentally.
If you've gotten an email that said you were deleted for not posting a recip link, that's not true. It's an automatic email that I didn't realize the new script was sending out. I do not require reciprocal links! If your site has been deleted, and you think it may have been accidental, you're welcome to re-submit your site, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Hope that answers that, its obviously why the URL has changed too. It used to be bluemushrooms.com/directory/directory.
Also, with the list of URLs:
http://www.a1directorysearch.com - not in list
http://www.fusedirectory.com - made the rejection pile Nov 21st.
http://www.intbonline.com - rejected before making review queue
http://www.product-pages.com - Not on list
http://www.reflexdir.info - Snowy's directory, hosting issue. Will need to see if he can get it fixed asap. Thanks for reminding me.
http://www.se-friendly.info - Snowy's (ditto as above)
http://www.waazoo.com - Thanks, will remove.
http://www.buy-modern-art.co.uk - already scheduled for removal
http://www.dwebcity.com/Directory - already scheduled for removal
http://www.portprophecy.com - thanks will add to be removed.

My directory is,
http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk
It is primarily for small UK business, but I have included a "Non UK" section too. I do ask for a link back, but this isn't compulsory and I add sites whether they link back to me or not.
It has 2 sections, one totally automated and self submitting, the other which I build by hand after only selecting the sites I like, or from people who contact me.
TIA.

Am aware of that lot.
Absolute was temporarily not accepting whilst moving server (still is). I don't remove these from my list because then I have to waste time re-adding them (actually the worst bit is once they make the removed list they don't normally get back on unless someone goes and checks them out) UNLESS the site is down for more than a few weeks. If their site isn't back up during the next update thread then it will be removed.
Directory Act I saw earlier. They have " Basic Listing (Currently Unavailable)", which is their free listing... that one I WILL add to be removed as we have no idea why they aren't currently available other than they want to push the paid options.
ecommerce and freeweb I am in discussion with the owner about (I mentioned that somewhere else in the forum). Until I have completed that discussion they will remain.
Aeoma is already on list to be removed (please see first post in thread). I've also added the other directories with no listings.
SEO Friendly Directory - "All listing are now paid the review fee is £2.00 per listing, you will be re-directed to payment after submission." Thanks, will add to be removed.
Wholesale Pimp - I am not convinced is a pay-4-inclusion. Can you please show me where? I know it is registration required.
Waazoo is already on the list to be removed (please see first post in thread)
Quicksilver is my directory. Yes it is temporarily down. I took it offline over xmas, as i let the hosting run out intentionally. That happened on the 31/12/05 with my previous host (2mhost) the one I had all the problems with. I took 2 backups of the directory on NYE, and have contacted my new webhost who are back at work today. Expect it back up before the end of the week.
* ALSO *, before it is mentioned again. I have spoken to Snowy in regards to the directories of his that went down with his hosting issue. We have agreed to remove them for this update, as he is working on putting them back online and cannot do it for this update. I will add the directories concerned to the To Be Removed section shortly.
I am also working through the "removed" list to see if any directories on that list (which is getting long) should be re-instated. I haven't worked through that whole list before, so it could take some time.
Added those directories of Snowy's affected by the hosting glitch. (see first post in thread for the affected directories).

Wholesale Pimp - I am not convinced is a pay-4-inclusion. Can you please show me where? I know it is registration required.
If you register, login, manage listing, add listing ... you then get to a pay per click screen ...

Hi,
I need to take that notice down from www.absolutedirectory.com as the site has been moved. The notice didn't stop anyone submitting anyway and I eventually forgot about it!
We are taking listings once again.
Hi Jez
thanks for clearing it up :)
Dollarfriend Directory bothers me. The submission process works fine (Rainchild queried it earlier in the thread). However, the directory has been around for a while now and has next to no listings (the numbers in brackets next to the categories are misleading). I'm removing all directories that are there for show and aren't going to really be serious about adding listings. If you come across any, please post them in this thread because they are going.
e-web-directory.com appears to suffer from the same issue, I can find no listings whatsoever on it.
Dollarfriend is now on the To Be Removed list.
e-Web-Directory is now on the To Be Removed list.
Have added another chunk of new directories. The ones that use Snowblind Directory script ask for a reciprocal, but I was able to submit my site without adding one. Webhot Link is by the same owner, we added them last update, and they have added my site so I'm expecting the same of the other directories.
Aeoma (which has had a makeover) appears to be working, however I was unable to complete the submission. It stalls on the "select a pricing option page". I chose free/non-reciprocal 3 times and the submission didn't go through... I would appreciate comments from users on this directory.

I dont see a link from the Home page to this directory. . Is this an issue?
That alone is not an issue, however if the directory will have no backlinks at all, it doesn't belong to the list. That however requires some time to show, especially for newly established directories.
Btw. there ARE people that setup fake directories on their websites that will intentionally NEVER get indexed. They then enter the reciprocal game with them. Nowadays I'm mostly suspicious when I get a reciprocal entered on the submission into my directories - most of the time the site in fact gets deleted instead of listed. I prefer nice sites that give no reciprocal over sites that have webmasters thinking I'm stupid.
