The subscription forum is there for users who want some premium level information that I am not at liberty at this stage to release to the public. It has been there since the beginning of the forums, however I wasn't ready to release it.

Upon reaching 500 posts people will convert to the Contributor usergroup and will have access to the Private forums. For now you will be able to see the threads that you are missing out on by not being a subscriber/contributor.

I haven't at this stage decided what to have as the subscription fee. I want to have only serious people in there as it is going to be some higher level discussion on the directories.

Forum Administrators and Moderators are currently the only ones able to view the forum content, but I will have the subscription available shortly so that anyone interested can be a part of it.

500 posts hmmm, 50 in 3 months, so that means 30 months from now I might have enough. Well, I guess I have something to look forward to in about 2010. LOL.

Quality, not quantity. Stay the course. :)

Well 500 posts or the fee (which I haven't introduced yet). If it was open to everyone it loses the whole point of being premium content.

I can't give everything away for free, I already give too much away for free, and it takes me 50 hours a week to give it away.

Some people also want to discuss sensitive topics, and I cannot make these public otherwise people ruin the information, or get offended, or they take the information and make money from it.

To be fair 500 posts is too few. I was thinking of making it 1000.

Just took a peek at my stats on the forums I've been a member of the longest. Combining the posts on both I barely have over 500. So, I too believe in quality of quantity.

I hope that setting these sort of milestones doesn't end up creating a lot of "Me Too" type posts just to get post counts. The ongoing discussion over on DP about padding post counts is getting rediculous. My second post was questioned as being a post padding post - what a great welcome.

Anyway, since I plan on participating rather than posting for the sake of posting, I guess I will wait to see how the subscription system is set up.

ps. My earlier post was meant as a joke, not a complaint.

Well i agree with your point of view, to a certain extent you cannot have a give it all attitude...and even if you do raise the bar to 1000 posts, i think the serious contributors would not mind, i would be happy to wait and earn my subscription...

The ongoing discussion over on DP
My biases but i donot think too kindly of DP, its a great place but then i feel Shawn does need to put in some controls..
Lot of people in DP seem to have a lot of attitude..seems fair but just my personal preferences...i feel totally lost out there...

Only the SEO forum keeps me happy

Well that would definetely come in place if one would participate on the directory issue and discussion happening, if you see we do have lots of thread discussion everything related to directories....

Even if one has a pretty lame opinion, ni one over here would brand the one as a noob...you learn when u ask the silliest of questions

ps. My earlier post was meant as a joke, not a complaint.

So was my suggestion that I make it 1000 posts :p

I'd be in there by myself LOL.

One of the reasons I don't have signatures is to get rid of "me too" type posts. DP has only just started to pull people up for doing that on their directory forum. There's a new sticky there now to ask people to post thoughtfully. Sadly its a bit of too little too late, because some of the peeps there (and I only mean some) are major spam junkies, and cannot help themselves.

Some people have been there a month and have 500+ posts. I've been a member there since Jan 2005 I think, and I reckon I only have 400+ posts. I find myself getting drowned in people putting up lists of lists of lists too... So many "look at my new list" type posts.

I think that a section of the forum for discussion of directories at a higher level is the way to go. I for one would be eager to join to learn and share any knowledge I may have.
