The directory list has been through two updates since September. One on the 4th of October, introducing 7 new directories bringing us to 259 directories. The second update has been released today and whilst 5 new directories have been included, our strict criteria has meant that numbers have dropped to an even 250.

The downloadable excel and Free Directory List have both been updated.

We believe this to be the best 250 directories available on the web. If you can find any to add to this list please sign up and submit them to the site.

The stats sever underwent a server migration mid-month which was botched by the webhost (when aren’t they?) leading to a loss of stats for several weeks. Unfortunately, the collection of Pagerank statistics is still a bit hit-and-miss so these cannot be taken accurately. However, Pagerank has been largely devalued to the point of being worthless, so that shouldn’t bother too many people.

I think you need to update the link from the main site (http://info.vilesilencer.com) as it is still linking to an older version.

I understand that in the SEO world there are two main sources of backlinks (blogs and directories). I was wondering if a person can achieve the results they need from directory linking alone. There are very few blogs related my industry. My question is if I can aquire a high page rank from directory linking only?

I wouldn’t bother trying to attain high page rank. It is an exercise in futility for anyone. It doesn’t improve your SERPs and is really just a ridiculous number that isn’t an accurate reflection of the quality of a webpage or its content or its usefulness.

Anyone that is chasing Pagerank is wasting their time.

Can you achieve SERPs results from directories alone? Possibly, however why limit yourself to one method when you have so many more available to you. As a bricks-and-mortar business would you rely on business cards alone, or would you also engage in newspaper advertising, cold-calling, word-of-mouth, sandwich-boards, flyers, utilising your window space?

Anyone that conducts directory submissions alone and expects results is asking to fail.

I do agree with Dan in regards to the importance of SERPs versus Page Rank. I just wanted to report that my site now ranks on the first page of Google for a dozen critical key word phrases within nine months. I firmly believe that the results I obtained were primarily a result of the back links acquired from directories . Thanks Dan for your list.
