Arts, artists and artisans. That’s a mouthful. These creative and dare I say it artistic directories are a collection of useful online art references and resources. People are passionate about their craft, and artworks seemingly inspire that passion in all of us. Chock full of useful resources, including suppliers, known artists, hobbies and crafts.

We’ve spent a lot of time cleaning up the arts and artists directory list of the Info Vilesilencer directory lists. Each directory now has its own unique description, and is categorised specifically for its artistic niche:

This is the top 20 most viewed directories on Info Vilesilencer (as at 23rd Dec 2009).

This section has been tabulated via the number of unique page views each directory’s individual “details page” has had since Sep 2008 (the inception of the new site). Each details page is unique and hand-written by an Info Vilesilencer editor. This level of content is not offered on any other directory list, and is the reason IVS drives real traffic to the highest quality directories available on the web.

The Directory Editor’s Prayer

In the last fortnight or so a few of the newer members at the Info Vilesilencer Directory Forum has been firing off questions that I believed were elementary, but which on closer inspection have probably never been answered with any authority or clarity.

So I took it upon myself to build a Web Directory FAQ to answer the most common of these questions. Many of them were posed by just one user, but they are representative of probably half a decade’s worth of similar questions that directory owners have had.

The directory list has been through two updates since September. One on the 4th of October, introducing 7 new directories bringing us to 259 directories. The second update has been released today and whilst 5 new directories have been included, our strict criteria has meant that numbers have dropped to an even 250.

The downloadable excel and Free Directory List have both been updated.

We believe this to be the best 250 directories available on the web. If you can find any to add to this list please sign up and submit them to the site.

The stats sever underwent a server migration mid-month which was botched by the webhost (when aren’t they?) leading to a loss of stats for several weeks. Unfortunately, the collection of Pagerank statistics is still a bit hit-and-miss so these cannot be taken accurately. However, Pagerank has been largely devalued to the point of being worthless, so that shouldn’t bother too many people.

We’ve been battling with the stats collection this month, so the rankings have moved around quite a bit and the accuracy is still a little off. The downloadable excel and SEO friendly free web directories have both been updated.

There’s also been a number of notable niche directory inclusions, particularly in the webmaster, travel and blog niche industry’s.

We will be working solidly on the arts and artists niche this month. We’ve included a few artistic directories already over the last 2 months, but there are a number of them sitting in the review queue, waiting to all be reviewed for possible inclusion into the directory lists. A blog announcement will accompany the inclusions.
